Starmont SMSX1/SMSX2 (Linux)
Network setup (Ethernet - Static)
This outlines the procedure for connecting a Linux based Starmont media player to an Ethernet network using a static IP address. The media player uses drakxtools for ease of configuration.

You will need 4 pieces of information from your IT department or network administrator in order to configure a static IP address. These are all required and must be exact: IP address, Netmask, Gateway, DNS server.

Connect a mouse and keyboard to the Starmont media player, using two of the available USB ports on the device.

Power on the device, and when it boots to the start screen (as shown to the left), click on the "Settings" icon (gear icon) on the lower right hand side of the display. After doing this, it will take a couple of seconds for the first configuration dialog to appear.

Select "Wired" from the list. Press the "Next" button.

Select "eth0" from the list. Press the "Next" button.

Select "Manual configuration" from the list. Press the "Next" button.

Enter the IP information you received from your IT department in each of the fields. IP address, Netmask, Gateway and both DNS server addresses all need to be complete and exact in order to work. Press the "Next" button.

Make sure "Start the connection at boot" is checked. Press the "Next" button.

Select "Yes" from the list. Press the "Next" button.

Click the "Finish" button. Your changes will be saved and the device will reboot.
